Tom Lee Points to $2 Trillion Wealth Transfer as Potential Crypto Fuel

Bitmine chairman Tom Lee sees a potential $2 trillion wealth transfer to younger investors as a major demand driver for digital assets, citing the shift as his firm continues its aggressive ether accumulation.
Lee, a Wall Street veteran and co-founder of Fundstrat, made the comments at Consensus 2026 in Miami. He described the transfer of wealth to millennials and Gen Z, expected between 2026 and 2028, as a key factor that could fuel a crypto market rally. The chairman of the publicly traded treasury firm views these demographics as more likely to allocate capital to digital assets.
His firm, Bitmine, backed up this long-term thesis with action last week, purchasing an additional 12,532 ether, worth approximately $32 million at current prices. The acquisition brings the company closer to its publicly stated goal of owning 5% of ether’s total supply.
Lee confirmed that Bitmine plans to halt its ether buying once it reaches the 5% ownership target, a milestone he expects the company to hit in just a few weeks.
