Moscow Exchange Starts Testing for Bitcoin Trading Launch

Moscow Exchange bitcoin trading — The Moscow Exchange has begun operational testing for the launch of bitcoin and cryptocurrency trading, with plans to open to its millions of clients in December.
The exchange’s senior managing director for sales, Boris Blokhin, confirmed the testing phase started last week with professional market participants. The exchange, Russia’s largest, will use a partner digital depository for client accounts and does not require additional permits to launch.
The move follows the enactment of Russia’s comprehensive digital currency law in September, which established rules for crypto trading. Trades can be conducted through existing financial infrastructure like brokers, as well as new crypto-focused entrants. Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank, recently gained approval to custody bitcoin.
Russian regulation currently prohibits using crypto for payments. Unqualified investors face an annual purchase limit, while qualified investors can trade any listed cryptocurrency without restrictions. The launch represents a significant step in Russia’s formal integration of digital asset markets.
