Ledger Hardware Wallet Attack Spreads to Europe as AI Uncovers $94B XRP Bug

Ledger attack spreads — The sophisticated attack on tampered Ledger hardware wallets has reportedly spread to Europe, while a security firm has revealed a critical bug in XRP’s code that could have created trillions of tokens.
A European user has posted photographs of a compromised Ledger device purchased from retailer MediaMarkt, indicating the attack, previously linked to over $93 million in losses in Asia, has reached a new region. The implant appears to be a version adapted for Eurasian mobile frequencies. Ledger has not confirmed this device is part of the same attack but has advised recent customers of the implicated Asian reseller, CryptoBilis, to transfer assets as a precaution.
Separately, security firm Veria Labs was paid a $250,000 bounty for uncovering a critical overflow bug in XRP’s code that had existed since 2015. The firm’s AI agent found that chaining two low-severity bugs could have allowed a single transaction to mint over 18 trillion XRP—184 times the total supply—putting the token’s entire $94 billion market cap at risk. RippleX patched the vulnerability in late September; there is no evidence it was ever exploited.
