Visa Survey Projects 1.2 Billion APAC Stablecoin Users by 2031

APAC stablecoin adoption — A new Visa survey suggests nearly half of consumers in the Asia-Pacific region could be using stablecoins for payments by 2031, representing a potential adoption wave of 1.2 billion people.
The survey of 14,250 people across APAC found that while only 16% had used a stablecoin in the past year, 46% expressed openness to using them within the next five years. The data points to significant growth potential for stablecoins in everyday commerce, travel, and cross-border transfers.
Despite the high interest, the survey revealed a major knowledge gap. Only 6% of respondents accurately understood how stablecoins work. Concerns about fraud and scams were cited as the leading barrier to wider adoption.
The findings indicate a substantial opportunity for payment providers and financial institutions to bridge the education gap and build consumer trust. As understanding improves, the survey suggests stablecoins could move from a niche digital asset to a mainstream payment tool for hundreds of millions in the region.
