Cointelegraph seeks buyer — Cryptocurrency media outlet Cointelegraph is seeking a buyer following an 80% plunge in its web traffic after a Google penalty last year, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The company’s fortunes were heavily impacted when Google issued a manual penalty in October 2025, causing a dramatic drop in organic search traffic. The amount of money Cointelegraph is seeking in a potential sale was not disclosed.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a prolonged period of flat crypto prices had also shifted user attention away from crypto news, adversely affecting several digital asset newsrooms. Cointelegraph was last acquired in July 2022 by Luna Media Corporation to fund its global and regional expansions.

The outlet is known for its use of cartoon-like characterizations to illustrate news stories. The search engine penalty and broader market conditions have prompted the sale process, though no timeline or specific buyers have been identified.
