Chainalysis AI Traces $387M Bitget Hack to North Korea

Bitget Hack — Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis has attributed the recent $387 million hack of crypto exchange Bitget to North Korean actors, using proprietary artificial intelligence tools to trace the stolen funds across multiple blockchains.

The firm detailed its investigation into the September 24 breach, which pushed North Korea’s total crypto theft for 2026 past the $1 billion mark. Chainalysis stated its in-house AI systems were deployed to track the movement of the stolen assets across four different blockchains in a race against the attackers to identify and potentially freeze the funds.

The hack represents one of the largest single crypto heists of the year and underscores the persistent threat posed by state-sponsored hacking groups. North Korea has long been accused of using stolen cryptocurrency to fund its weapons programs and circumvent international sanctions.

Chainalysis’s use of AI for this investigation highlights the evolving technological arms race between blockchain forensic firms and sophisticated cybercriminals. The firm did not specify whether any of the stolen funds have been recovered.
