Lloyds Survey: 71% of UK Finance Leaders Expect Tokenization to Reshape Services

UK finance leaders expect tokenization — A new survey from Lloyds Banking Group reveals that 71% of senior UK finance leaders expect asset tokenization to reshape financial services, with faster payments and settlement seen as the primary benefit.

The annual survey, published on October 2, 2026, polled 100 senior decision-makers from major UK banks, insurers, asset managers, and financial sponsors. Sixty percent of respondents identified faster payments and settlement as the most significant potential advantage of moving assets onto blockchain-based infrastructure, while 41% pointed to improved collateral and liquidity management.

Rob Hale, co-head of global markets at Lloyds, stated that the next phase involves turning individual use cases into scalable infrastructure with the interoperability needed to connect digital and traditional markets. The bank has already tested the technology, completing what it called the UK’s first public blockchain transaction using tokenized deposits to buy a tokenized UK government bond earlier this year.

The survey aligns with a broader UK policy push to build infrastructure for tokenized finance. A government-backed task force estimated in July that leadership in this area could add up to £33 billion ($44 billion) to the UK’s annual economic output by 2035 and called for the country’s first tokenized government bond by early 2027.
