Bitcoin market efficiency challenged by 24/7 global trading, UTXO’s Hinton says

Bitcoin market efficiency — UTXO Management’s Daniel Hinton highlighted the unique challenges of achieving price efficiency in Bitcoin‘s decentralized, round-the-clock global market during a recent Bitcoin Magazine interview.
Hinton, a former global liquidity manager at SFOX, explained that Bitcoin “plays on hard mode” because it lacks a central clearinghouse outside its own blockchain. He noted that multi-percentage-point price dislocations between exchanges were common in 2018 but have largely disappeared due to improved market infrastructure.
Despite this progress, he pointed to the recent wind-down of the BitMEX perpetual futures market as an example of remaining fragility, where thin liquidity briefly pushed the perp price above $150,000. Hinton and the hosts discussed the implications of such volatility for traders using margin or stop-loss orders.
The conversation also covered the need for better custody solutions and the development of open-source price oracles, like the one UTXO is building, to serve a market with no single official price. Hinton argued these tools are necessary to meet institutional mandates and allow broader adoption of Bitcoin.
