BitMEX Shuts Down Trading, Urges Users to Withdraw Funds

BitMEX shuts down — Cryptocurrency derivatives exchange BitMEX has permanently ended all trading and is urging its users to withdraw their remaining funds.

The exchange, which pioneered 100x leverage trading for Bitcoin, ceased operations at 04:00 UTC on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The platform is now directing all users to its withdrawal page to remove any assets.

Users who leave funds on the now-defunct exchange will be subject to fees. The exchange has not specified the fee structure for dormant accounts but has made it clear that balances should be moved.

BitMEX was a dominant force in the early crypto derivatives market, popularizing high-leverage Bitcoin perpetual swaps. Its closure marks the end of an era for a platform that was once a central hub for crypto traders seeking extreme leverage.
