US Congressman Thanedar Urges Passage of Digital Asset Clarity Act

U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) has published an opinion piece calling on Congress to pass the Clarity Act, arguing it is necessary to secure permanent economic innovation and provide regulatory relief to the digital asset industry.

Thanedar stated that a quarter of his Detroit constituents are unbanked or underbanked, and that the current financial system is failing them. He argued that blockchain technology and digital assets can bridge this economic divide by increasing competition and providing innovative financial solutions.

The Congressman acknowledged that while digital assets hold promise, the sector is currently “plagued by uncertainty and a lack of clarity” from regulators. He framed the Clarity Act as a critical piece of legislation needed to resolve this regulatory ambiguity and allow the industry to grow responsibly within the United States.

Thanedar’s call to action specifically targets the Senate, noting the need for “60 Senators willing to put innovation first.” The opinion piece positions the bill as a bipartisan priority for fostering financial inclusion and maintaining U.S. leadership in technological innovation.
