Lummis Credits Trump for Ethics Deal as Clarity Act Faces Tuesday Vote

Clarity Act faces Tuesday vote — U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis has credited President Donald Trump with agreeing to stringent ethics rules to advance the landmark Clarity Act, which faces a crucial Senate vote on Tuesday.

The pro-crypto Republican stated on X that Trump agreed to give state attorneys general new powers to sue federal officials over conflicts of interest, calling them “the toughest ethics restrictions on federal officials in American history.” The Clarity Act aims to formally classify digital assets as securities, commodities, or stablecoins, providing regulatory clarity long sought by the industry.

Lummis warned that a ‘no’ vote would kill both the ethics reforms and consumer protections for digital asset holders, ceding the industry’s future to foreign competitors. An updated draft of the bill, released Sunday night alongside Senators John Boozman and Tim Scott, incorporates these enforcement provisions.

The bill, which passed the House last year, has been stalled amid debates over stablecoin yields and ethics concerns. While Trump has campaigned on supporting crypto, some lawmakers have criticized his family’s involvement in digital asset ventures.
