Lummis Criticizes Democrats as Senate Prepares Clarity Act Vote

Clarity Act vote — U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis has criticized Democratic lawmakers ahead of a crucial procedural vote on the crypto Clarity Act, scheduled for next week, while maintaining the bill can still pass with compromise.

In a post on X, the Republican senator argued that if the bill fails, it will be because Democrats did not join Republicans in supporting a bipartisan framework designed to protect consumers and cement U.S. leadership in digital assets. She accused Democrats of demanding last-minute changes that could allow future regulators to “kill the crypto industry.”

The Clarity Act aims to establish a regulatory framework, dividing oversight between agencies to classify digital assets as securities, commodities, or stablecoins. Although passed by the House last year, the bill has been stalled, partly due to disputes over stablecoin yield payments.

Lummis warned that if the Senate fails to pass the legislation next week, there will not be “another realistic shot at this before the end of the decade.” President Donald Trump has previously urged lawmakers to pass the bill to maintain U.S. leadership in crypto.
