Liquid Network Attacker Returns 3,400 BTC Following Bug Fix

Liquid Network attacker — The attacker behind a major exploit on Bitcoin‘s Liquid sidechain has returned 3,400 BTC after developers patched the vulnerability, though they retained nearly 600 BTC.

Blockstream, the company behind the Liquid Network, confirmed that its bridge nodes had been updated to fix the bug that enabled the theft. The attacker returned the majority of the stolen funds after this patch was implemented.

Approximately 598.5 BTC, worth tens of millions of dollars, remains in the attacker’s control. The total amount initially stolen was just under 4,000 BTC.

The Liquid Network is a federated sidechain designed for faster Bitcoin transactions and the issuance of digital assets. The incident highlights the security challenges faced by cross-chain infrastructure.
